Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in Dynasty Warriors history, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.
Initial Strategy:
Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right. After securing two, a cutscene will trigger, introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base capture strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.
Once all bases are under your control, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a major battle against Dong Zhuo's forces. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the enemy defenses.
Lu Bu's Arrival:
Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. A one-on-one fight is suicidal. Instead, eliminate enemy officers on the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence will severely deplete.
Lu Bu will eventually target your main base and Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will provide a temporary defense, giving you time to focus on Dong Zhuo. This creates a time limit; if Liu Bei's army is routed, Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao, ending the mission.
Defeating Dong Zhuo:
After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Then, capture the northern and western bases. With all three squads poised to attack, and your health replenished, charge towards Dong Zhuo.
Dong Zhuo will employ two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage (if available) to break through the enemy lines protecting the catapults. Focus on eliminating surrounding soldiers and officers to clear a path for your troops to destroy the catapults.
The second Grand Tactic necessitates defeating an officer. Proceed to the stairs on the right; however, be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. A duel with Diaochan is recommended to avoid being overwhelmed.
Once the Grand Tactics are countered, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should easily overwhelm his remaining troops. Dian Wei might even initiate a Grand Tactic, further easing your victory. While a duel is tempting, a standard attack will suffice; Dong Zhuo and his forces will offer minimal resistance at this point.
