Dune: Awakening Hits Record Players on Steam

Authore: MaxUpdate:Jan 12,2026

While Head Starters gained early access to Arrakis on June 5, Dune: Awakening officially launched for all players yesterday, June 10. Within hours of release, Funcom's survival MMO surpassed 142,000 concurrent Steam players – 142,050 to be exact.

This impressive debut secured Dune: Awakening the ninth spot among Steam's most-played games of the past 24 hours. Player counts are expected to grow throughout this week, potentially reaching even higher peaks during its first post-launch weekend.

Prior to launch, Funcom announced the console version won't arrive until "sometime in 2026". Players have already discovered unofficial sandworm riding techniques, despite the feature not being officially implemented.

Our review of Dune: Awakening remains ongoing. While we're still evaluating the game and find its gunplay somewhat lacking, our reviewer noted: "After 35+ hours, I feel I've barely scratched the surface – with new zones to explore, main story progress to make, and limited PvP encounters so far. Expect updates this week as I approach endgame content."

For those braving Arrakis, we've prepared resource guides covering everything from iron and steel to aluminum locations. New players should explore all available character classes, and stay tuned for our developing story walkthrough for mission-by-mission guidance.
