Development of Dragon Quest XII continues, with creator Yuji Horii assuring fans that information will be revealed gradually. During a recent livestream with KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This marks the first update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. The departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile division was also previously announced.
Recent restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates had sparked concerns about the game's status. However, Horii's statement allays these fears, confirming Dragon Quest XII remains under active development.
Announced during the franchise's 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, selling over 2 million copies.
