Dragon Age: The Veilguard Gets Surprise Free Weapon DLC After Months Without an Update

Authore: LillianUpdate:Mar 29,2025

BioWare has largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped its dedicated team from surprising fans with a new, small DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was recently updated to announce the addition of the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer, a free cosmetic DLC. Given that EA had previously indicated that Dragon Age: The Veilguard would not see much future support, this unexpected content update comes as a pleasant surprise. Especially considering that the game's fifth patch in January focused solely on addressing critical bugs, this new content, albeit modest, feels like a minor miracle.

The Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer is exclusively available to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. While the bundle's specific contents are not detailed, players have discovered that it includes a set of Watchful skins that can be used in the Rook's in-game room. It remains uncertain whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

Feedback from the community has been mixed but generally positive. A Steam review commented, "Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever, they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Similarly, a Redditor expressed satisfaction, stating, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard received positive reviews upon its October launch, but according to EA, it didn't connect with a wide enough audience. In late January, key team members announced their departure from BioWare, with many staff members either being laid off or reassigned to other projects within the company. EA informed IGN at the time that the studio was now fully focused on the next Mass Effect title.

Just four months after its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles. No further plans for its future have been disclosed.
