Crunchyroll has recently expanded its Android vault by adding Kardboard Kings, a delightful single-player management game where you step into the shoes of a card shop owner. This adventure, originally launched on PC in February 2022, has now been made accessible on mobile devices, thanks to Crunchyroll. If you're a Crunchyroll member, you can download this game for free from the Google Play Store.
What’s the Deal in Kardboard Kings?
In Kardboard Kings, you embody Harry Hsu, a young man who inherits his father's card shop. His father, a renowned card collector and former champion of the legendary card game Warlock, leaves behind a legacy that Harry must now uphold. As the new shopkeeper, Harry navigates the thrilling world of card trading, buying, and selling.
Harry isn’t alone in this venture; he's joined by Giuseppe, a savvy cockatoo with a talent for fast-talking and an uncanny ability to spot great deals. Together, they manage a charming card shop nestled by the seaside. Players have the choice to either keep customers happy or indulge in a bit of mischief by trying to fleece them for extra profit.
The game is filled with charming and sarcastic characters that often reference other card games and anime, adding layers of fun and familiarity. With over 100 unique card designs, including quirky illustrations and shiny variants, the cards themselves are a visual treat.
What’s the Gameplay Like?
The gameplay begins with the basics of buying low and selling high to turn a profit. As you delve deeper, you'll encounter fluctuating card conditions and set rarities, where factors like foil finish, card abilities, and popularity influence the value of each card.
Kardboard Kings also introduces a roguelite deckbuilding mode set on Card Game Island. Here, players can challenge serious duelists, host tournaments, organize booster pack parties, or even conduct clearance sales to manage inventory effectively.
Developed by Henry’s House, with contributions from Oscar Brittain and Rob Gross, and published by Akupara Games, Kardboard Kings has made a successful transition from PC to consoles and now to mobile devices. If you’re a Crunchyroll member, don't miss the chance to experience this engaging card shop management adventure on your Android device.
