Even though the brand-new Nintendo Store in San Francisco won’t officially open until May 15, that hasn’t stopped at least one enthusiastic fan from setting up camp outside its doors. The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, and YouTuber Super Cafe has already taken his position in line—months ahead of the release date.
In a video uploaded on April 8, Super Cafe shared details about his journey to San Francisco, where he plans to stay for the next two months. His mission? To be among the very first people on the West Coast to get his hands on both the new console and to walk through the doors of the newly opened store.
Despite having lived in his apartment for just two months, Super Cafe admits this is a questionable financial move—but he’s not looking back. “Terrible financial decision on my end. Whatever, who cares,” he said with a laugh.
He isn’t the only one staking out a Nintendo Store for the Switch 2 launch. On the East Coast, another content creator is camping outside the New York location, mirroring this nostalgic tradition of console launch anticipation. While Super Cafe plans to camp solo, he also extended an invitation to others considering the same experience, encouraging them to reach out if they’re thinking of joining him.
As for the logistics of living outdoors for weeks on end—think food, shelter, and hygiene—he says he’ll address those concerns in a future Q&A session. For now, he’s focused on securing his spot and preparing for the big day.
Camping out for a major Nintendo console release is a time-honored tradition among dedicated fans. With both the New York and San Francisco Nintendo Stores now hosting early birds, it remains to be seen whether more fans will follow suit. Whether or not this sparks a wave of line-waiters, one thing is clear: excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2 is already at full throttle.
