Heads up to all Spotify users — it looks like the music streaming giant is experiencing a widespread outage this morning. As reported by IGN’s sister site Downdetector, service disruptions began popping up around 6 a.m. PT on April 16, 2025, with user complaints continuing to rise throughout the morning.
Our team encountered difficulties accessing the platform during this time as well. Even when we managed to open the app, playback functionality was not working as expected — a frustrating experience for listeners everywhere.
Spotify has officially responded to the issue, confirming that they are “working to resolve it as soon as possible.” In addition, the company took to Twitter via its official account @SpotifyStatus to clarify that recent rumors linking the outage to a security breach are completely unfounded:
We are aware of the outage and working to resolve it as soon as possible. The reports of this being a security hack are false.
