Bloodborne, the critically lauded RPG released in 2015, enjoys enduring popularity. Many players eagerly await the chance to revisit the gothic world of Yharnam on current-gen consoles. While no official announcement has been made, recent posts on FromSoftware and PlayStation Italia's Instagram accounts showcasing the game have ignited a fresh wave of speculation.
On August 24th, FromSoftware shared three images featuring the game's title and the hashtag "#bloodborne." One image depicted Djura, a veteran hunter encountered in Old Yharnam. The others showcased the Hunter exploring Yharnam's heart and the eerie Charnel Lane.
While these posts could simply be a nostalgic nod to the game's legacy, dedicated Bloodborne fans on platforms like Twitter (X) are meticulously analyzing every detail, searching for clues hinting at a long-awaited remaster. The timing, particularly with PlayStation Italia's similar post on August 17th, has many feeling teased.
PlayStation Italia's post, translated, asked: "Swipe to see some of Bloodborne’s most iconic locations! A journey through gothic atmospheres and dark mysteries. Which is your favorite?" The comments section reflects the community's yearning for a Yharnam return, with some sharing favorite locations and others humorously suggesting a PC or modern console release as the most iconic location.
The Hunt for Bloodborne on Modern Consoles Continues – Almost a Decade On
Released exclusively for PS4 in 2015, Bloodborne boasts a fiercely loyal fanbase, bolstered by widespread critical acclaim and recognition as one of gaming's greatest achievements. Yet, a sequel or remaster remains elusive.
Fans cite the 2020 remake of Demon's Souls (originally released in 2009) as a potential precedent for a Bloodborne revival. However, excitement is tempered by the potential for a lengthy wait. The decade-long gap between Demon's Souls' release and its remake has fueled fears that Bloodborne might face a similar fate. As the game nears its tenth anniversary, anticipation is at an all-time high.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki, in a February interview with Eurogamer, further stoked the flames. While avoiding concrete confirmation, he acknowledged the advantages of remastering for modern hardware.
"New hardware definitely adds value to remakes," Miyazaki stated. "But that's not everything. Modern hardware lets more players appreciate these games. So, it's a simple reason, but as a gamer, accessibility is important."
Despite this encouraging sentiment, the final decision rests not with FromSoftware. Unlike Elden Ring (which FromSoftware fully publishes), Bloodborne's rights are held by Sony.
"I can't talk about Bloodborne specifically," Miyazaki told IGN in a similar interview. "FromSoftware doesn't own the IP. It was a great project, and I have fond memories, but we can't comment."
Bloodborne's passionate community continues to hope for a remaster. Despite critical success and strong sales, Sony hasn't expanded its availability beyond PS4. Whether these latest speculations will translate into reality remains to be seen.
