Renowned Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in iconic games like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many others, has recently shared a touching message as he recovers from a life-threatening incident. Johnson was discovered "barely alive" in his hotel room last week, and a video he uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised $174,653 to date, revealed that he was in a coma following the ordeal.
"I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson expressed in the video. The voice actor, who also serves as an announcer for the Washington Capitals, was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After not showing up at the event, his wife Kim Johnson called the hotel, leading to the discovery of Johnson's critical condition by security and emergency medical technicians who struggled to find a pulse.
Reflecting on the close call, Johnson remarked, "Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here." He credited his survival to his wife's quick action and the subsequent intervention of medical personnel. Johnson spent five days in a coma before learning about the GoFundMe initiative started by his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, along with his wife Kim.
In his message, Johnson extended heartfelt thanks to the National Alzheimer's Association for supporting his family, to Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company, for a generous $25,000 donation, and to Bethesda for their public support. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," he said to Bethesda, "Always will be. Love you guys." He also expressed gratitude to his fans for their donations and support, affirming, "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere."
Despite the long road ahead, Johnson remains optimistic about his recovery. "It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers," he concluded.
Throughout his career, Johnson has lent his voice to numerous characters in Bethesda's games, including Ron Hope in Starfield, Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among others. In addition to his video game work, Johnson has appeared in various film and television roles.
