"Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: Tier List"

Authore: EleanorUpdate:May 22,2025

Ubisoft’s latest addition to the storied stealth-action open-world franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. But where does it stand among its predecessors? With over 30 games released under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries here, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR games, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The Assassin’s Creed saga began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr, and it now finds us in 16th-century Japan, taking control of Naoe and Yasuke. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th core entry in the series. I’ve crafted a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game, which you can explore below:

Simon Cardy's Assassin's Creed Tier List

In my tier list, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag reigns supreme in the S-tier. The blend of island exploration, exhilarating ship combat, and a vibrant cast creates what I consider the quintessential AC experience. Joining it in the S-tier is Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that propelled the series into the spotlight. Valhalla sits comfortably in the A-tier; its Viking-inspired combat and the engaging Orlog minigame won me over. Also in the A-tier is Unity, whose breathtaking recreation of Revolutionary Paris remains impressive even a decade on.

Disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? You have the chance to create your own tier list below, comparing your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the broader IGN community.
