The trailer not only introduces a new Xenomorph design but also showcases how closely Alien: Earth mirrors the aesthetic of Ridley Scott's groundbreaking 1979 horror classic. A pivotal scene unfolds inside a MU/TH/UR control room, strikingly similar to the one aboard the Nostromo where Ripley first uncovers the horrifying truth about her crew's predicament.
In this new trailer, a frantic crew member desperately seeks assistance, pounding on a sealed door as the Xenomorph closes in. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears indifferent to her distress, reporting that the "specimens are loose," declaring the crew deceased, and setting the ship's course toward Earth. The trailer then shifts to six soldiers advancing toward what seems to be the crashed ship, hinting at the grim fate awaiting them.
This trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors among the crew? Could anyone have been impregnated by the Xenomorph? And, crucially, how will the soldiers meet their end?
These elements set the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows a mysterious space vessel crashing on Earth. The story centers on a young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers who make a chilling discovery that pits them against the planet's most formidable threat.
FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, positioned after the events of Prometheus and just two years before the harrowing ordeal of the Nostromo crew in the original Alien. Given its place within the Alien timeline, fans speculate that Alien: Earth might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or shed light on how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani Corporation first learned of the Xenomorphs. As a reference, the recently released interquel Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens. In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed why he chose not to use the backstory provided in Prometheus for Alien: Earth. He expressed a preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films, explaining that while he had extensive discussions with Ridley Scott about various elements of the Alien series, including its connections to the prequels, he ultimately opted to diverge from the bioweapon narrative. Hawley's decision was driven by his affinity for the lore established in the initial films.
FX's Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Meanwhile, fans can also look forward to Alien: Romulus 2, which is currently in development.
