I'm generally a practical spender. Essentials and the occasional sale-priced video game usually cover my purchases. It wasn't until last year that I even considered a LEGO set, despite enjoying them as a child. The cost is a major factor; while some sets are affordable, movie or game tie-ins often inflate the price. This is why the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant took so long to join my collection. It's been on sale for under $50 since October, but only recently did I decide my desk needed a new, rather unusual, potted plant.

I first considered this set after seeing IGN's build. A lifelong Mario fan, it seemed the perfect tribute. LEGO's botanical line offers attractive desk plants, but none are as delightfully terrifying as this little guy.
My LEGO Piranha Plant
Having built it, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It evokes the Mushroom Kingdom, a fun, cultivated Piranha Plant companion during work hours. I enjoyed the building process as much as the finished product. Completed in an afternoon, it remained engaging throughout. It's my first Nintendo LEGO set, but this experience makes me want more.

LEGO's high prices, especially for adult-targeted sets exceeding $200, make budgeting crucial. There's a line between rewarding oneself and overspending. This Mario set, under $50, felt justifiable. The hours spent building and the daily happiness it brings make the cost worthwhile for me.
