The story of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Northern War" begins in the North Ambria autonomous province, located in the northwest of the Zemuria continent. Set between the events of "Trails of Cold Steel II" and "Trails of Cold Steel III," the "Northern War" is told from the perspective of Lavian, a female Jaeger from the TV anime and member of the fearsome "Northern Jaegers."

The year is S.1205.

Lavian is a girl born and raised in the autonomous province of North Ambria.

To defend her homeland and prove herself different from her grandfather Vlad—a once-revered hero who betrayed his nation—she volunteers for the "Northern Jaegers," the continent's most formidable mercenary corps, and carries out her missions with zeal.

One day, Lavian, whose dedication to duty often leads to disciplinary issues, is forced to team up with fellow Jaegers Marty, Iseria, and Talion. They are assigned a perilous covert mission to infiltrate the Erebonian Empire.

Their objective: to gather intelligence on the mysterious "Hero of the Empire," a looming threat to North Ambria.
