WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

Authore: BenjaminUpdate:Apr 03,2025

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled a planned paid story expansion for the popular Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy. The expansion was slated for release this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came this week, reportedly due to concerns that the content did not justify the price being considered. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.

This cancellation is part of a broader restructuring effort within Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been facing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made significant moves including canceling a planned Wonder Woman game and shutting down the studio responsible for it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and MultiVersus studio Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs occurred at Rocksteady Studios just last September.

Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is a top priority, aligning with their strategy to focus on fewer but larger franchises. The original game has achieved impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
