In *Avowed*, upgrading weapons and armor is done at the Workbench (shown above). Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Many materials are readily found or craftable, but upgrading to higher qualities necessitates progressively rarer Adra. These Workbenches are conveniently located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Find a Waystone, set up camp, and that location will appear on your map (marked with a tent icon), allowing for fast travel.

How Weapon and Armor Leveling Works in Avowed

Weapon and armor power in *Avowed* is tracked in two ways. Primarily, it's determined by Quality, indicated by a numerical value, color rarity, and descriptive adjective. This directly corresponds to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Underpowered gear (lower quality than enemies) will be significantly less effective. Conversely, weapons and armor matching or exceeding enemy quality provide significant advantages. Here's the quality breakdown:

  • Common Quality – Green, Level I
  • Fine Quality – Blue, Level II
  • Exceptional – Purple, Level III
  • Superb – Red, Level IV
  • Legendary – Gold, Level V

Within each Quality level, you can further upgrade your gear three times (+0 to +3). While less impactful than increasing Quality, these incremental upgrades still boost stats. Crucially, you must complete all three sub-level upgrades before progressing to the next Quality level.

Beyond Quality and sub-level upgrades, *Avowed* features standard and Unique weapons/armor. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases, while Unique items (named, proper-noun items) are rewards from quests or boss drops. Some merchants may sell Unique items. Crucially, Unique gear can reach Legendary Quality, unlike standard gear (which maxes at Superb). Unique items also boast superior bonuses and perks. Therefore, prioritize upgrading Unique gear, saving your resources for these superior items. Use standard gear temporarily and then sell or dismantle it for resources to enhance your Unique equipment.

That's how to upgrade weapons and armor in *Avowed*. Good luck!
