Authore: MichaelUpdate:May 15,2025

Excitement is building as the popular Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, is on the brink of unveiling its first major video game. CEO Travis Willingham recently shared with Business Insider that an announcement could be made "any day." While details about the game's title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham assured fans that the development team is diligently working on the project.

"They'll actually be getting their hands on the stick and controlling the outcome of the story, changing what might be possible from not just some of their favorite characters, but new offerings in the world of Exandria," Willingham explained, hinting at the interactive nature of the upcoming game.

The show has expanded into a rich universe, notably with the successful Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The forthcoming video game will complement Critical Role's other ventures, though it may not directly tie into them. In a December 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, Willingham mentioned that the team was in the "active pursuit" of creating a Critical Role video game spinoff, indicating they were nearing the end of a multi-year development journey. It remains to be seen whether the game will follow one of the group's existing campaigns or introduce a fresh narrative within the Exandria setting.

Originally, the team anticipated announcing the game by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Now, as we progress into the third month of 2025, the announcement seems imminent.

Reflecting on the project, Willingham told Rolling Stone, "Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels. You know, there’s a lot of upheaval in the interactive space right now. And we’ve seen studios sort of bear and weather those strains. It’s trying to become smarter about it and find out how we might fit into that larger ecosystem."

While an official release date for the Critical Role video game is yet to be announced, fans can stay updated with the latest developments on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
