Sphere Defense, the latest tower defense game from Tomnoki Studio, pays homage to the iconic geoDefense by David Whatley, released over a decade ago. The developers, inspired by their childhood experiences with geoDefense, aimed to capture its blend of simplicity and challenge in this new Android title.
What’s the Premise?
In Sphere Defense, the Earth—or 'The Sphere'—is on the verge of annihilation by invaders. Humanity has been forced underground, working tirelessly to develop new technology in hopes of reclaiming the surface. After years of enduring attacks, the underground dwellers have amassed enough firepower to launch a counterattack, and it's up to you to lead the charge and save the planet.
The gameplay follows the classic tower defense formula where you strategically place units with distinct strengths to fend off waves of enemies. As you accumulate kills, you gain resources to expand or upgrade your arsenal, making the game increasingly strategic at higher difficulties.
Sphere Defense offers three difficulty levels—easy, normal, and hard—each with 10 stages. Stages last between 5 to 15 minutes, providing a range of challenges and durations. Here’s a sneak peek at the game:
Set Up Turrets to Mow Your Enemies Down
The game features seven types of units that you'll need to strategically deploy to survive. The attack units include the Standard Attack Turret for taking down single targets, the Area Attack Turret for dealing with groups of enemies, and the Piercing Attack Turret, perfect for enemies lined up in formation.
Support units, such as the Cooling Turret and the Incendiary Turret, enhance your attack units' effectiveness. Additionally, support attack units like the Fixed-Point Attack Unit for targeted missile strikes and the Linear Attack Unit for satellite laser attacks provide tactical advantages.
