The eagerly anticipated Ratatan gameplay trailer was unveiled during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, courtesy of developer Ratatan Works. This trailer not only gave fans a sneak peek at the game's mechanics but also showcased an intense battle against a giant boss crab. Ratatan blends rhythm roguelike action with side-scrolling elements, promising an engaging experience that stays true to its roots while introducing fresh gameplay dynamics.
One of the standout features is the online co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players, allowing friends to join forces in the rhythm-driven chaos. The game will also feature massive melee battles with up to 100 characters, adding depth and excitement to every encounter.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and with original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi on board, Ratatan has already made significant strides. Launched on Kickstarter in 2023, the campaign successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, securing a release on multiple platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to a recent update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones, revealing that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnered positive feedback for its original soundtrack demo.
While the game won't be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is fully focused on ensuring a robust closed beta experience. Sakajiri noted that the initial beta build will include up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added during the test period, which will span approximately one month. He also mentioned that details about code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared on Discord and X once finalized.
Ratatan is scheduled for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Although an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build among fans eager to experience this innovative rhythm roguelike game.
