Sony Improves Wi-Fi Connectivity for Remote Play
[1] screenshot taken from Reddit The PlayStation Portal's ability to connect to a user's PS5 console via Wi-Fi enables a smooth switch between playing on a TV and in handheld mode. While this feature is highly appealing, initial user reports highlighted connectivity issues. Sony requires a minimum broadband internet speed of 5Mbps for optimal use of the PlayStation Portal Remote Player.
In response to these concerns, Sony recently rolled out a major update, allowing the PlayStation Portal to connect to public Wi-Fi networks. Previously limited to slower 2.4GHz bands, the device now supports certain 5GHz networks following the release of Update 3.0.1.
Feedback from users on social media has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting improved and more stable connections. One user noted, "I’m the biggest portal hater, but mine is playing much better so far," indicating a significant enhancement in performance post-update.
