The Pokémon Company currently has no intention of bringing Pokémon TCG Pocket into its competitive gaming ecosystem. Discover why this digital card game won't join the official circuit and what this means for its future.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Won't Be Joining Competitive Play Anytime Soon
Competitive Circuit Plans Confirmed Absent
Official competitive support won't be coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket in the foreseeable future. During a February 25, 2025 interview with VGC, Pokémon's Director of eSports Chris Brown confirmed they're constantly evaluating new competitive opportunities, but TCG Pocket isn't currently under consideration.
Brown humorously referenced "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," recalling the company's April Fool's joke about sleep-tracking competitions. He clarified "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, though we're always evaluating potential additions."
Development Stage And Balance Concerns
While no official reasons were provided for excluding TCG Pocket from competitive play, community speculation points to several factors. The simplified digital card game launched just four months prior in October 2024, having only released two card sets so far.
The app includes casual competitive features, but players continue requesting balance adjustments. Designed as an accessible introduction to the franchise's trading card mechanics, Pokémon TCG Pocket emphasizes streamlined gameplay over competitive depth.
The existing Pokémon competitive circuit will continue featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite at major events like the August 2025 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California.
