Oscar Isaac Set to Appear at Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

Star Wars fans are buzzing with excitement as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. The event, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors about the potential return of Poe Dameron to the beloved galaxy far, far away. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account announced Isaac's participation, fueling speculation among fans.

This announcement comes on the heels of Daisy Ridley's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film. Given this precedent, fans are eagerly anticipating whether Isaac might also announce his return to the franchise during the upcoming event.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," and Isaac has had a rollercoaster relationship with the franchise. Initially expressing reluctance to return, stating in 2020 that he would only come back if he needed "another house or something," his stance softened by 2022. In an interview with Variety, he mentioned being "open to anything," indicating a more positive outlook on reprising his role as Poe Dameron.

Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his proposal of a romance between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega. He noted that the "overlords were not ready for that." Similarly, Boyega has expressed mixed feelings about his experience with the Sequel Trilogy and Disney, though he has also indicated openness to future roles within the franchise.

The speculation surrounding the return of the main trio from the Sequel Trilogy is further fueled by the upcoming Rey film, set to take place approximately 15 years after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker." In this new installment, Rey aims to rebuild the Jedi Order. Daisy Ridley has already voiced her desire for Boyega to join her in the film, and with Isaac completing the trio, his return seems plausible.

While fans eagerly await definitive answers at Star Wars Celebration 2025, they may have to wait longer to see how the pieces come together. Disney has repeatedly delayed the release of upcoming Star Wars films, despite announcing over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is currently slated for a potential release on December 17, 2027, though no final date has been confirmed yet.
