Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Seeks Fix

Authore: JosephUpdate:May 07,2025

PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered significant issues following an unexpected update released today, but Bethesda has assured fans that a solution is forthcoming.

The update, rolled out by Virtuos without prior notice or patch notes, left many players puzzled about its purpose. While some continued playing without immediate issues, others soon discovered that the update had inadvertently removed crucial upscaling features, severely impacting game performance.

A Reddit user highlighted the problem, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to 'off' and while the arrows are clickable, nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVidia app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"

The impact varied among players; some reported no significant change in performance, while others faced new challenges with low framerates. The most concerning issue was the complete lockout of upscaling settings, which left many fans frustrated just before Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.

Are you playing Oblivion for the first time with Remastered, or did you play the original first?

In response to the outcry, Bethesda issued a statement on its official support page. The update, they explained, was intended to include "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." However, it appears that the issues primarily affect those who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store, particularly with upscaling and anti-aliasing options.

"Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally," Bethesda clarified. "However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."

While a fix is in the works, there's no definite timeline for its release. Meanwhile, players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S can continue enjoying the game without any reported issues.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was re-released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S earlier this week.
