During the latest Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo confirmed that nearly all of its Nintendo Switch library will be playable on the new system. Select titles, however, will receive special "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades with exclusive features, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
These Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades vary from game to game. The first title showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, receiving an enhanced mode called "Jamboree TV." It introduces mouse controls, audio recognition, more immersive rumble features, and some gameplay that utilizes the new camera accessory.
Next, they highlighted enhancements for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which will feature increased resolution, improved framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, a new service on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes will offer voice-guided assistance for finding Shrines and Koroks, plus the ability to share Tears of the Kingdom creations with friends via QR codes.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land followed, introducing a brand-new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, alongside graphical improvements and smoother framerates.
Two other games were also confirmed for upgrades: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will see enhanced resolution and framerates.
All of these upgraded editions will be available for purchase both physically and digitally. A few titles—Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby—will also have separate upgrade packs available for players who already own the original Switch versions.

Later in the presentation, they revealed several third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions as well, such as Civilization 7 (with mouse support) and Street Fighter 6 (featuring Switch 2-exclusive game modes).
Nintendo first sparked interest in "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week when a webpage briefly mentioned them in a footnote related to the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these upgraded games cannot be transferred back to the original Nintendo Switch using the Virtual Game Card.
