Nintendo Addresses Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Nintendo has issued an uncommon statement regarding the recent flurry of Switch 2 leaks stemming from CES 2025. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in this year's CES, therefore any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event is not considered official. This brief comment, while seemingly obvious, represents a rare public acknowledgement of product leaks by the company.
The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, a period coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Accessory manufacturer Genki unveiled a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, prompting a wave of images and videos across social media.
Following an inquiry from the Sankei Shimbun, Nintendo officially labeled the Genki replica as "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, reinforcing the unofficial nature of the showcased model.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo refrained from commenting on the replica's accuracy, the device aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most noticeable differences from the original Switch are its slightly larger size and an additional button. This button, situated below the right Joy-Con's home button and labeled "C," resembles the square capture button on the left Joy-Con, but its function remains unknown.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai offered further speculation, suggesting the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will utilize magnetic attachment instead of sliding rails and may function as mouse controls – claims echoing previous reports.
Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. However, a retail release is not anticipated before the second quarter of 2025. Current rumors suggest a retail price of around $399.
