Monster Hunter Wilds Aims To Lower Minimum PC Specs

Console Performance Targets Revealed

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to dazzle with a special patch tailored for the PS5 Pro at its launch next year. In a comprehensive pre-launch community update streamed on December 19th at 9AM EST / 6AM PST, key members of the development team, including director Yuya Tokuda, gathered to discuss the enhancements and adjustments planned for the game's full release following the Open Beta Test (OBT).

They unveiled the performance targets for the console versions of the game. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will offer dual modes: Prioritize Graphics and Prioritize Framerate. Opting for graphics will deliver stunning visuals at 4K resolution, albeit at 30fps, whereas choosing framerate will ensure smoother gameplay at 1080p with 60fps. The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, will run at a native 1080p resolution with 30fps. A notable fix in the Framerate mode has resolved a rendering bug, enhancing overall performance.

While specifics on the PS5 Pro's performance were sparse, it's confirmed that it will offer enhanced graphics and be available right at the game's launch.

For PC enthusiasts, the game's performance will hinge on individual hardware and settings. Although the initial PC specs have been disclosed, the team is diligently working to lower the minimum requirements, aiming to reach a broader audience. More details on this are expected closer to the release date. Additionally, Capcom is contemplating the release of a PC benchmark tool to help players gauge their system's readiness.

The team is also mulling over a second open beta test, primarily to give those who missed the initial test a chance to experience the game. This potential beta will include some new options for players to explore, but it won't feature the changes discussed in the recent stream—those will be exclusive to the full release.

Other highlights from the livestream included adjustments to hitstop and sound effects to enhance the feeling of impact, as well as efforts to reduce friendly fire. Significant tweaks and enhancements to various weapons were also covered, with special attention given to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance, among others.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on February 28th, 2025, and will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
