James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, is known for frequently casting his friends in his projects. Now, an actress from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has confirmed discussions with Gunn about a role in the upcoming DC Universe.

The DC Universe aims to build a new shared universe of DC characters, hoping for greater success than the previous DC Extended Universe. While the DCEU had some box office wins, it also faced financial setbacks and a lack of overall cohesion. Warner Bros. is hoping Gunn, known for his Guardians of the Galaxy films, can steer the DCU to avoid similar pitfalls, potentially bringing some familiar faces along.

According to Agents of Fandom, Pom Klementieff, who played Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy, confirmed conversations with Gunn about joining the DCU. At San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con, when asked about a potential DC role, Klementieff playfully avoided specifics, stating that Gunn has a particular character in mind.

I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that. Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.

Klementieff also shared her positive experience working with Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 concluding with the team's disbanding, Klementieff remains open to reprising her role as Mantis, depending on the project.

I'm always open to it, I love the character. I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project.

Gunn later confirmed Klementieff's comments on Threads, clarifying that this role is separate from his upcoming Superman film. While the specific DC character remains undisclosed, the collaboration between Gunn and Klementieff is confirmed.

Gunn's practice of casting familiar faces has drawn criticism from some, but others argue that many filmmakers work with similar actors. Ultimately, Klementieff's suitability for the role should be judged on its merits.

Guardians of the Galaxy is streaming on Disney+.
