Fallout 76 Season 20 Now Available

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Fallout 76’s latest update offers players the unique opportunity to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. Bethesda announced on March 18 that Season 20, dubbed "The Ghoul Within," is live, bringing a slew of ghoul-related features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to customize your C.A.M.P.

In this update, players can embrace Ghoulification by completing the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey leads players to a new area of the Savage Divide, where they'll encounter new characters aiding in their transformation into Ghouls. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-only Perks.

The Feral ability replaces the traditional hunger and thirst stats, offering boosts based on the Feral meter's percentage. At 0%, players experience dramatic gameplay shifts: "+150% Melee Damage, -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

On the other hand, the Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing them to glow. This ability not only increases maximum health and heals damage but also enhances Ghoul-specific Perks, known as "Gherks."

Players can choose from 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed for Ghouls. Note that perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are not available to Ghouls, as these benefits are irrelevant to their new state.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-saturated wasteland becomes more manageable as a Ghoul, thanks to the array of Gherks and abilities at your disposal. However, interactions with factions like the Brotherhood of Steel may turn hostile, potentially blocking access to certain questlines.

Fortunately, a new NPC named Jaye provides disguises that enable Ghouls to access content otherwise restricted due to their condition. If the Ghoul life doesn't suit you, reverting to human form is possible via the Character Screen, though this is irreversible without purchasing the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

New and returning players can now accelerate their journey with the Level 50 Character Boost, available for 1500 Atoms. This boost, part of the Season 20 update, equips players with perks and advantages to quickly engage with multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.

The update also includes numerous bug fixes and balance adjustments, such as enhancements to accessibility, combat mechanics, and weapon damage. Bethesda has also teased the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, set for April 29, as part of their seasonal calendar.

Since its launch in November 2018, Fallout 76 has overcome initial challenges and now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% of reviews being favorable. The game is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
