The Exit 8 has made its debut on Android, blending various intriguing elements into a compelling package. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is available for $3.99. It's a unique walking simulator that envelops players in an eerie atmosphere, prompting them to question every step they take.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, players navigate a seemingly endless underground passage reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. You find yourself trapped in a repetitive loop where the tiles, lights, posters, and even the solitary figure walking towards you keep reappearing. The core challenge lies in identifying anomalies within this loop. These could range from a poster with a new graphic, lights flickering more intensely than before, or even a river of blood replacing the floor. The game's mechanics revolve around detecting these subtle changes and responding promptly.
If you notice something unusual, you must turn back. If nothing seems amiss, continue forward. The objective is to reach the eighth exit without faltering, which means correctly spotting and reacting to anomalies eight consecutive times. Fail, and you'll have to start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
Inspired by the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, The Exit 8's setting draws from real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture enhance the game's unsettling ambiance. Players are encouraged to scrutinize their environment closely, searching for the slightest details that could indicate danger or a shift in reality. This constant questioning of memory and perception ensures that each playthrough feels unique.
Initially released for PC in November 2023, The Exit 8 took Kotake Create approximately nine months to develop. It garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam upon its release. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
