Nintendo has officially opened its second U.S. store in San Francisco today, May 15, located in Union Square at 331 Powell Street. Following the success of their New York store, which underwent renovations and rebranding from Nintendo World Store to Nintendo NY before reopening in 2016, the new San Francisco location marks Nintendo's first foray onto the West Coast.
IGN was on the scene to explore what the new store has to offer and also had the opportunity to sit down with Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, to discuss the timing and reasons behind opening a store in San Francisco.
In our interview, we delved into topics surrounding the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5. We asked President Bowser about the availability of the Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and beyond, as well as the controversial Game-Key Cards and other pertinent details.
