Capcom has shared an initial glimpse of Resident Evil Requiem's gameplay through brief clips shown during a recent livestream.
At the Capcom Spotlight event, the developers showcased a short sequence in first-person, emphasizing the horror atmosphere and introducing the new protagonist, FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft. The footage shows her navigating eerie corridors with only a lighter as her source of light. In one moment, Ashcroft turns to find a massive humanoid creature emerging from the shadows, closing in on her.
Another first-person excerpt features Ashcroft exploring a grand hallway, this time armed with a handgun (naturally skilled as an FBI agent). Her ability to remain calm and use deductive reasoning is also highlighted, demonstrated as she inspects a toolbox in the series' classic close-up examination style.
Finally, we get a very brief look at a third-person segment. Here, Ashcroft once again traverses unsettling corridors and dimly lit rooms. The menacing creature reappears, casually moving through the darkness.
Throughout the presentation, the Capcom team explained how the first-person viewpoint creates an intense and immersive experience, while the over-the-shoulder third-person camera allows players to see more of the surrounding action. The third-person mode is described as ideal for those who prefer a more action-oriented gameplay style.
Players can freely switch between first- and third-person perspectives at any time via the in-game Options menu. For more details, read IGN's hands-on preview of Resident Evil Requiem.

Elsewhere, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem is set 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City, which concluded Resident Evil 3. This explains the massive crater seen in the announcement trailer. The title 'Requiem' was chosen to represent a eulogy or tribute to the characters and events of the past, as the studio elaborated.
Despite fan speculation and hope, there was no major reveal involving Leon S. Kennedy. If the veteran Resident Evil character is indeed playable, that announcement may come at a later date. It's worth noting that developers made some intriguing remarks about Leon's potential connection to the game during the presentation, which we have covered separately.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. For more updates, check out all the announcements from Capcom Spotlight 2025.
