New Evidence of Rumored Elder Scrolls 4 Remake Surfaces

Oblivion Remake Hints Emerge: Unreal Engine 5 and a Potential 2025 Reveal

Whispers of an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake are growing louder, fueled by a developer's LinkedIn profile. The profile, belonging to a Technical Art Director at Virtuos, a studio rumored to be involved, boasts work on an "unannounced Unreal Engine 5 remake for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S." While the game isn't explicitly named, the context strongly suggests Oblivion, particularly given the use of Unreal Engine 5, hinting at a full remake rather than a simple remaster.

This development aligns with persistent rumors of an Oblivion remake, with speculation circulating for years, including a 2023 prediction of a 2024 or 2025 release. Xbox insider Jez Corden further fueled anticipation in late December 2024, suggesting a reveal during a January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct (though this event remains unconfirmed). The possibility is strengthened by the fact that Microsoft held similar events in January 2023 and 2024.

The LinkedIn post provides substantial new evidence supporting these claims. The use of Unreal Engine 5 further solidifies the belief that this is a full-fledged remake, a significant upgrade from previous remaster speculation. Interestingly, plans for a Fallout 3 remaster also surfaced in late 2023, although its current status remains unclear.

A Look Back at Oblivion and the Future of Elder Scrolls

Released in 2006, Oblivion, the sequel to 2002's Morrowind, garnered significant praise for its expansive open world and immersive gameplay. The community's dedication is evident in the ongoing Skyblivion project, a fan-made recreation of Oblivion within Skyrim's engine, recently hinting at a 2025 release.

The future of the Elder Scrolls franchise remains a topic of much discussion. The only trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI debuted in 2018, with Bethesda Game Studios confirming it as their next major project following Starfield. Director Todd Howard's prediction of a release 15-17 years after Skyrim suggests a considerable wait, but fans are hopeful for a new trailer before the end of 2025. The potential Oblivion remake could offer a satisfying interim experience while the wait for Elder Scrolls VI continues.
