Nearly three decades after its initial release, Paul W.S. Anderson's cult classic film, *Event Horizon*, is set to expand its universe with a new prequel. IDW Publishing has announced *Event Horizon: Dark Descent*, a gripping five-issue comic book series that delves into the chilling events preceding the film and uncovers the mysterious fate of the original crew aboard the Event Horizon ship.

Penned by the talented Christian Ward, known for *Batman: City of Madness*, and illustrated by Tristan Jones of *Aliens: Defiance* fame, *Dark Descent* promises to be a visually stunning and narratively rich addition to the franchise. Pip Martin, acclaimed for *That Texas Blood*, brings vibrant colors to the series, while cover art is provided by an impressive lineup including Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

IDW's official synopsis teases fans with what to expect: *Embracing the hard-R rating of the shocking movie, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5 issues) will lightspeed jump into comic shops this August. Set before the events of the film and welcoming to new readers, this series uncovers the harrowing final journey of the original Event Horizon crew. Discover the true fate of Captain Kilpack and his team as they navigate a nightmarish realm of unimaginable torments. Brace yourself as demonic forces, led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, unleash pure evil and torment on the crew in this gripping tale.*

Christian Ward expressed his excitement and reverence for the project, stating, "It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve. Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again."

Tristan Jones also shared his enthusiasm, noting, "I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people. It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."
