Within the last decade, online play across platforms has evolved from a far-fetched dream into a seamless reality. While crossplay has helped unite the Call of Duty community, it’s not without its trade-offs. If you're diving into Black Ops 6 and wondering how to disable crossplay for a more tailored experience, here’s everything you need to know.
Should You Disable Crossplay in Black Ops 6?
Turning off crossplay in Black Ops 6 comes with both benefits and drawbacks—making it a decision worth considering carefully.
Many players choose to disable crossplay to maintain a level playing field. Console gamers on Xbox and PlayStation often prefer to avoid matches with PC players, who use mouse and keyboard setups. This input method offers inherently more precise aiming compared to a controller, which can create a perceived imbalance in competitive scenarios. Additionally, despite the robust Ricochet Anti-Cheat system, some PC players have reported encountering hackers and cheaters in Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Disabling crossplay may reduce exposure to these issues by limiting the player pool to console-only lobbies.
However, there’s a significant downside: disabling crossplay shrinks the overall matchmaking pool. With fewer players available for matchmaking, you may experience longer queue times and less stable connections. In our testing, matches took noticeably longer to find, and some lobbies suffered from higher ping and reduced performance.
How to Turn Off Crossplay in Black Ops 6
Disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 is simple and can be done quickly through the game’s settings:
- Navigate to the Account & Network settings menu.
- Look for the Crossplay and Crossplay Communications toggle at the top of the list.
- Press X on PlayStation or A on Xbox to switch the setting from On to Off.
You can access this setting from within Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty HQ interface. For faster access, consider favoriting the Crossplay option and adding it to your Quick Settings—as shown in the image below.
Note that the crossplay toggle may appear greyed out or locked in certain game modes. For example, Ranked Play has historically required crossplay to be enabled, likely to ensure faster matchmaking and broader competition. While this promotes inclusivity, it can feel unfair to console players facing PC opponents. The good news is that starting in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, players will have the option to disable crossplay even in high-stakes modes—giving you greater control over your competitive environment.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
