Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers a skillful hack-and-slash experience, customizable through four difficulty settings: Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), Hero (hard), and Ultimate Warrior (very hard). The latter unlocks after completing a faction's main scenario.
While there's an achievement for completing a battle on Ultimate Warrior, campaign completion achievements aren't difficulty-dependent. Difficulty can be changed between battles.
Which Difficulty is Best?
The optimal setting depends on your experience:
-
Historian: Ideal for newcomers to the genre or those prioritizing story over challenge. Enemies are easily staggered, bravery builds quickly, and Musou Gauge fills rapidly. All attacks are blockable.
-
Wayfarer: The sweet spot for most players, even those with limited Musou experience. Provides a balanced challenge.
-
Hero: Recommended for seasoned Musou fans seeking a greater challenge. Enemies are tougher, parry/evade windows are smaller, and rewards are slightly reduced. Meat Buns are no longer dropped. Blocking depletes bravery.
-
Ultimate Warrior: An intensified Hero mode, featuring even tighter timing windows and significantly reduced rewards.
Difficulty Differences Summarized:
Historian offers generous advantages, while Hero and Ultimate Warrior progressively increase enemy strength, reduce reward gains, and tighten the timing for defensive maneuvers. Choose the setting that best matches your desired level of challenge.
