Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
The game repeatedly warns against engaging Lu Bu, but victory is possible with the right strategy. This guide details how to defeat this formidable foe.
Should You Fight Lu Bu?
While challenging, fighting Lu Bu offers significant rewards: bragging rights, story progression (if siding with Shu or Wei in Chapter 4's Battle of Xiapi), and the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd (obtained by defeating him at Hulao Gate and again in the post-game). Be prepared for a lengthy battle; defeating him may take over an hour.
Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu
Before the fight, equip a multi-hit sword for staggering, and Battle Arts with low Bravery requirements, quick activation, and wide range (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Essential accessories include those boosting health and defense (Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon granting Bravery on Perfect Evades is crucial.
Initially, Lu Bu charges on Red Hare. His attacks have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Exploit his pauses between charges to unleash Battle Arts. Once his health drops to 80%, he dismounts, escalating the difficulty.
Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu
On foot, Lu Bu's attacks are faster and more aggressive. He frequently charges, indicated by a red aura (during which he's unstaggerable). Evade these charges; a grab attack without the spear is also easily dodged.
His most dangerous move is a three-arrow volley after an orange glow. Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter; close-range attacks are fatal. Maintain a charged Musou gauge for invincibility during critical moments. Focus on juggling Lu Bu to quickly charge Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude. Close-range combat allows for quicker reaction times. Consistent evasion is paramount.
Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage
Depleting Lu Bu's health triggers his Musou Rage, making him unstaggerable and unleashing relentless attacks. The objective is to break his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack (which, if successful, instantly restarts the phase). Utilize all available resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid, powerful strikes – to overcome this final hurdle.
By mastering these strategies, you can overcome Lu Bu and claim the ultimate reward in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
