A former concept artist's revelation hints at a cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5. Nicholas Kole, in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, alluded to the game's demise, adding to the disappointment surrounding his other cancelled project, "Project Dragon."
"Project Dragon" and the Unreleased Crash 5
Kole clarified that "Project Dragon," initially speculated to be Spyro-related, was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs. However, he also teased the existence of a cancelled Crash Bandicoot 5, predicting a strong negative reaction from fans – a prediction that proved accurate. The online response was overwhelmingly disheartened by the news of a potential lost Crash title.
The cancellation coincides with Toys For Bob's transition to an independent studio after parting ways with Activision Blizzard earlier this year. While now partnered with Microsoft Xbox for future publishing endeavors, details about their first independent project remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, launched in 2020 and achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included the mobile title Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and the multiplayer game Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending its live service in March 2024.
Toys For Bob's newfound independence raises the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5, but the prospect remains uncertain, leaving fans anxiously awaiting further news.
