Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is set to prioritize quality-of-life enhancements over its planned first in-game event. In a development update on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games shared a roadmap outlining the next steps for Civ 7. Update 1.1.0, scheduled for March 4, 2025, on PC and consoles (with a separate release date for Nintendo Switch), was initially slated to introduce the "Natural Wonder Battle" event. However, Firaxis has decided to delay this event to focus on critical quality-of-life updates. They stated, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning its user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis has committed to ongoing improvements, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI. We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will tackle community feedback head-on. While the full patch notes will be released closer to the launch date, Firaxis has outlined key improvements. Players will enjoy a new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, available for free exploration. The much-anticipated UI adjustments will address community concerns, and significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory will enhance AI leaders' ability to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Additionally, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released alongside the update. Firaxis mentioned, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civ 7 is planned for March 25, 2025, although this date may change. The focus will remain on improving the game’s UI, as Firaxis stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civ 7 aims to introduce further enhancements, including a "one more turn" feature to extend gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and updates to multiplayer support.
Firaxis emphasized their ongoing commitment, saying, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
