Avowed: A Solo Fantasy Adventure – No Multiplayer Planned
Avowed has been compared to both Skyrim and Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds, but one key difference sets it apart: it's a strictly solo experience. Despite initial plans, Avowed does not feature multiplayer functionality of any kind – no co-op, no PvP, and no invasion modes.
While early marketing may have hinted at co-op, Obsidian Entertainment ultimately decided to cut this feature during development, citing a focus on other aspects of the game. This decision, while potentially disappointing to some, allows the developers to concentrate on delivering a rich and immersive single-player experience.
The absence of multiplayer extends to all aspects of gameplay. You'll have companions, but these will be non-player characters (NPCs), similar to the structure of The Outer Worlds. Enemy encounters will also be solely against AI-controlled opponents.
Currently, there's no indication of a community-created co-op mod for Avowed, although this remains a possibility in the future, similar to the successful Skyrim co-op mod. However, Obsidian has confirmed they have no plans to add multiplayer post-launch.
In short: Avowed is a single-player game, and will remain so.
