Assassin's Creed Shadows Faces Another Delay, Now Targeting March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced a further delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release date back to March 20, 2025. Initially scheduled for a February 14th launch, this marks a five-week postponement from the previously announced date. The publisher cites the need for additional refinement and polishing based on player feedback as the reason for the delay.
The game's journey to release has been marked by setbacks. A significant three-month delay was announced in September 2024, shifting the launch from November 15th to February 14th. While the initial delay was attributed to unspecified development challenges, this latest postponement directly addresses player feedback. Marc-Alexis Coté, Vice President and Executive Producer of the Assassin's Creed franchise, emphasized Ubisoft's commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience shaped by ongoing player interaction. Both delays, however, share the common goal of providing the development team extra time for refinement and polishing.
Release Date: March 20, 2025
The September delay saw Ubisoft offering pre-order refunds and free access to the first expansion for those who pre-ordered. While there's been no official word on similar compensation for this shorter delay, the impact is expected to be less significant than the previous three-month postponement.
This latest delay could also be linked to Ubisoft's internal investigation into its development practices, announced several months ago. The company aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows aligns with this objective. The delay, coupled with Ubisoft's recent financial challenges, underscores the company's commitment to delivering a polished and engaging final product.
