Winter Veil Lore Unveiled in Latest Warcraft Video

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a festive event mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and items. A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history within Azeroth.

This in-game event, brimming with special rewards and activities, features new collectibles each year, acquired through various means such as drops and quests. The recently released video, narrated by PlatinumWoW, explores the holiday's origins, encompassing the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter (a Titan-forged giant), Tauren traditions emphasizing spiritual reflection and gratitude to the Earthmother, and the commercialization of Winter Veil by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.

A History Steeped in Tradition and Mischief

No Winter Veil lore video would be complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after Chris Metzen (former Warcraft creative director). This unfortunate reindeer's tale includes three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration. The video humorously concludes with Metzen expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice, a nod to Metzen's voice acting role.

This collaboration marks another successful partnership between Blizzard and PlatinumWoW, who has previously contributed lore videos on various topics, including Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. Blizzard's recent collaborations with content creators like PlatinumWoW, Taliesin & Evitel, and Hurricane demonstrate a commitment to diverse and engaging content.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new transmogrification options, and the Grunch pet for all players. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift—perhaps a surprise like last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy!
