Slaying monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is exhilarating, but to truly master the hunt and gather every valuable monster part for crafting, you'll need to learn the art of trapping. This requires a specific tool: Trap Tools. Here's how to obtain them.

Monster Hunter Wilds doesn't explicitly guide you to Trap Tools, but for veterans of the series, this will feel familiar.
Your primary source for Trap Tools is the Provisions Stockpiler NPC at your Base Camp. Simply talk to him, browse his inventory, and purchase Trap Tools for 200 Zenny each. It's highly recommended to buy several, especially if you're focused on farming specific monsters or aiming to capture a variety of creatures.
Unlike other resources found in the wild, Trap Tools are exclusively available for purchase at the Base Camp.
How to Use Trap Tools
With your Trap Tools acquired, it's time to use them. Combine them with a Net (using Spiderweb or Ivy) to create a Pitfall Trap, or with a Thunderbug Capacitor to craft a Shock Trap.
While both traps are effective, remember that certain monsters are immune to specific traps. For example, Shock Traps are useless against Rey Dau, a lightning dragon, naturally immune to electrical shocks. In such cases, a Pitfall Trap is your best bet.
Keep in mind that you can only carry one trap at a time. Strategically deploy your traps when the monster is weakened for optimal results.
