In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, the main story quest "Necessary Evil" presents players with some of the game's most challenging moral dilemmas, particularly in deciding whether to side with Semine or Hashek. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate this quest effectively.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Necessary Evil Quest Walkthrough
After completing the "Back in the Saddle" quest, you can embark on "Necessary Evil." Here, von Bergow assigns Hans and Henry the task of gathering intelligence from Nebakov Fortress and interrogating a prisoner. The interrogation's outcome is crucial, as it will decide whether von Bergow targets Semine or Nebakov Fortress. This walkthrough assumes you choose to focus on Semine, where the moral decisions are most intense.
Prisoner Interrogation Answers
During the prisoner interrogation, you'll face several Speech checks. You can either use your Speech skills to threaten the prisoner or resort to torture to extract information. Here are the Speech check requirements:
- "We’ll put in a good word for you." (20 Impression)
- "Istvan and I are old acquaintances." (20 Impression)
- "Otherwise, it’ll end badly for you." (17 Intimidation)
After the interrogation, you'll uncover the identity of the bandit leader and Semine's involvement. When reporting back to von Bergow, you can either reveal Young Semine's collaboration with the bandits, prompting an attack on the town, or claim no one helped the bandits, leading to an assault on Nebakov.
Should You Attack Semine or Nebakov?
Choosing to attack Semine requires you to ride with the party and face more complex decisions involving Hashek. Opting to attack Nebakov allows von Bergow to handle the bandits there, concluding the quest quickly.
While attacking Nebakov might seem preferable to avoid bloodshed in Semine, morally, letting Semine off the hook isn't ideal given the deaths he's indirectly caused. I chose to attack Semine, believing it was the right course of action despite my familiarity with the town from earlier in the game.
If you decide to attack Semine, ensure you ride with the party. Falling behind could result in the town's massacre. Accompanying them gives you a chance to help Semine.
Should You Side With Semine or Hashek?
Before the assault, you can talk to Hashek, who clearly seeks revenge on Semine and the most violent resolution. Upon arriving, you must decide between siding with Semine or Hashek.
- To side with Hashek, select the dialogue option "Hashek is right."
- To side with Semine, choose "Olda deserves a trial."
I recommend siding with Semine. Although he erred in aiding the bandits, Hashek's desire to raze everything would lead to further innocent casualties. Playing Henry as a morally upright character made siding with Semine and stopping Hashek's rampage the logical choice.
After defeating Hashek, advise the Semines to burn their estate and flee, advancing the quest to your next objective of informing von Bergow.
If you side with Hashek, the entire town will perish. You can also confront Olda in the tower and decide his fate—either spare him or hand him over to Hashek.
Should You Tell von Bergow or Let Hans Talk?
The quest concludes with Henry and Hans reporting to von Bergow. You can either let Hans do the talking or have Henry explain the events at Semine.
I suggest staying silent and allowing Hans to speak. His diplomatic skills keep both him and Henry in von Bergow's favor, leading to plans for action against Nebakov.
