Ready or Not: Fixing 'Serialization Error'

Authore: CarterUpdate:Mar 14,2025

Ready or Not, while sounding deceptively innocent, is a hardcore SWAT FPS experience, not for the faint of heart. However, even seasoned players can encounter frustrating technical glitches. One such issue is the dreaded "Serialization Error Action Needed" message. This guide will walk you through troubleshooting this Unreal Engine error.

The "Serialization Error Action Needed" error, often accompanied by "Corrupt data found, please verify your installation," points to a problem with your game files. Let's tackle this step-by-step.

1. Verify Game Files

The first and most logical step is to do exactly what the error message suggests: verify your game files. Ensure Steam isn't in offline mode.

  1. Open your Steam Library and locate Ready or Not.
  2. Right-click on the game and select "Properties."
  3. Navigate to "Local Files" and click "Verify Integrity of Game Files."

Steam will scan your game files and automatically replace any corrupted or missing files. Once complete, relaunch Ready or Not. If the problem persists, move on to the next step.

2. Remove Mods

Outdated or incompatible mods are a common culprit behind this error, especially since the game's transition to Unreal Engine 5. Here's how to remove them:

  1. Open your Steam Library and locate Ready or Not.
  2. Left-click "Manage," then select "Browse Local Files."
  3. Navigate to the ReadyorNot > Content > Paks folder.
  4. Delete the mod.io folder.

This will remove all your mods. The game should now run, but you'll need to reinstall your mods selectively, as detailed below.

3. Reinstall Mods (Selectively)

Now, it's time to carefully reinstall your mods, one at a time. Visit the mod's source (Nexus Mods, Mod.io, etc.) and check the last update date. Mods updated after July 2024 (when the UE5 update launched) are more likely to be compatible.

Install a single mod, test the game, and repeat the process. If the error returns after installing a specific mod, that's your culprit. Unfortunately, if the mod hasn't been updated for UE5, you won't be able to use it.

Last Resort: Reinstall the Game

If all else fails, a complete reinstallation of Ready or Not might be necessary. While less likely, hard drive corruption could also be a factor. However, outdated mods are the most common cause of this error.

Ready or Not is available now for PC.
