Nexon announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC game launched in January 2023. The closure affects all global platforms, but notably not the Asian servers in Taiwan and South Korea. These Asian versions will continue, albeit with planned updates. Nexon hasn't revealed specifics about these updates or the possibility of a future global relaunch.
Asian Servers Remain Operational
The shutdown only impacts the international release. Players in Taiwan and South Korea can continue enjoying KartRider: Drift, although Nexon will be implementing changes to the game in these regions.
Global Shutdown Timing Unannounced
The exact date of the global shutdown remains undisclosed. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, allowing players to experience it before its closure later this year.
Reasons Behind the Shutdown
Despite efforts to provide a seamless global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustration with the game's high level of automation, leading to repetitive gameplay. Technical issues, including subpar optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's success. These factors ultimately led Nexon to decide to shut down the global version and refocus their efforts on the PC versions in Korea and Taiwan. Their aim is to revitalize the original vision of the game.
