Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, marking a thrilling new chapter in the galaxy far, far away. The new series unfolds after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, with iconic heroes Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in disarray.
Penned by acclaimed writer Alex Segura, who previously captivated fans with his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this latest volume promises to deliver an exhilarating narrative. The series will be visually brought to life by the renowned Star Wars artist Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Both Noto and Leinil Yu will contribute stunning cover art for the debut issue.
Set approximately two years post-Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series captures the galaxy at a pivotal moment following the decisive Battle of Jakku. As the New Republic strives to cement its authority, Luke and his companions confront fresh challenges posed by opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains eager to exploit the resulting power vacuum.
"Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking," Segura shared with StarWars.com. "These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline."
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, as Star Wars #1 hits the shelves, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
Marvel's commitment to expanding the Star Wars universe doesn't stop here. In February, fans can look forward to Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a new series exploring Kylo Ren's journey in the aftermath of The Last Jedi.
