Navigating Hyper Light Breaker's sprawling, Synthwave-infused Overgrowth can be challenging. However, utilizing the Hoverboard significantly streamlines exploration. While not explicitly explained, the Hoverboard is accessible from the game's outset.
Functioning essentially as a sprint mechanism, the Hoverboard dramatically increases movement speed, albeit at the cost of gradual Energy depletion. This guide details Hoverboard activation and highlights its utility beyond mere traversal.
How To Summon A Hoverboard in Hyper Light Breaker
To activate the Hoverboard, simply hold down the Dodge button. Your character will dash forward and automatically mount the Hoverboard as long as you maintain the Dodge input.
Hoverboard control is intuitive. The left analog stick controls direction; leaning the board allows for gradual turns, with turning speed inversely proportional to your current velocity. Maximum speed results in slower turns.
To dismount, release the Dodge button. The Hoverboard will also automatically deactivate upon Energy depletion.
Your current Energy level is displayed near your Breaker's companion while using the Hoverboard (or Glider). Monitor your Energy; dismount briefly to allow regeneration if it becomes low to prevent unexpected dismounts.
Hoverboard Movement Techniques & Applications
While lacking trick or attack functionalities, the Hoverboard offers unique advantages. Notably, it traverses water seamlessly; rivers and inlets are no longer obstacles. Land and water traversal are identical.
Submerged Hoverboard summoning is impossible; you must already be on the board to transition onto water. Entry speed or jump height doesn't affect this; the Hoverboard quickly returns to the surface.
Holding the Jump button while on the Hoverboard allows for a controlled crouch, useful for precise jump timing, especially over longer distances. While no double-jump is available, the increased speed significantly extends jump range. Note: crouching doesn't boost speed or jump height.
