Nintendo Switch 2 Game Cartridge Revealed Ahead of Console Launch

Nintendo has given us our first official look at a Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridge just weeks before the console's official release next month.

A new video from Nintendo's official app reveals the Switch 2 carry case, featuring dedicated slots for six game cartridges - compatible with both original Switch and Switch 2 games.

Switching Colors, Not Size

As previously confirmed, Switch 2 game cartridges maintain the same physical dimensions as their predecessors, ensuring backward compatibility with a single cartridge slot. However, their vibrant red coloring provides instant visual distinction.

This color scheme appears to be standard across all Switch 2 titles, not just the Mario Kart World edition featured in Nintendo's preview. The cartridge labels also prominently display the Switch 2 branding instead of the original Nintendo Switch logo.

(Also, Switch 2 cartridges seem to be the same size as Switch 1 cartridges, to no one's surprise.)

Safety First Approach Continues

Nintendo maintains its signature safety measure - the notorious bitter coating designed to prevent accidental ingestion. Switch 2 hardware director Takuhiro Dohta reaffirmed this commitment to child safety:

"We've ensured the taste remains an effective deterrent against swallowing. If a cartridge enters someone's mouth, they'll immediately want to remove it."

The Switch 2 launches June 5, 2025, with industry reports suggesting Samsung is already planning hardware revisions, potentially including OLED screen enhancements for future models.
