In the latest installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the upcoming Switch 2. This news excites fans eager to experience the enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, Final Fantasy VII Remake, on Nintendo's next-generation handheld console.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the PS5 version of the game, introduces several enhancements over the original PS4 release. These include improved graphics and lighting, along with the addition of the Intermission DLC, which focuses on the adventures of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar. Currently available on PS5 and PC, Intergrade is poised to leverage the Switch 2's advanced capabilities to deliver a full-spec experience of Midgar.
Hamaguchi expressed enthusiasm about the portability of the Switch 2, stating, “Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work.” This feature not only enhances accessibility but also fosters a community where players can easily share their gaming experiences and progress with others.
The Switch 2 version will also introduce GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends during gameplay and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi is optimistic about the potential for a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand, highlighting his excitement for the game's portability.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, “I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2.” This suggests that fans might also see Rebirth and the concluding chapter of the trilogy on the new console.
The Final Fantasy series has a rich history with Nintendo, having originated on their platforms before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997. The remake's arrival on Nintendo hardware marks a significant return to its roots, promising to bring the beloved RPG to a new generation of players on the Switch 2.
