Midnight Society, the game studio co-founded by streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS game, Deadrop. The studio shared this news via a post on X, stating, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." In their announcement, they also reached out to other studios, asking if any are hiring and could offer employment opportunities to their team members.
Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, known for their work on games like Call of Duty and Halo. Their first project, Deadrop, was envisioned as a free-to-play FPS leveraging the team's extensive expertise. Initially targeting a 2024 release, the game unfortunately missed its deadline.

In 2024, Midnight Society parted ways with Beahm after he admitted to exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, which he described as "sometimes leaning too much in the direction of being inappropriate." Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until its closure this year.
Deadrop was set in a fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters with Daft Punk-like helmets and wielding a mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed as a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising a unique gaming experience.
The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing closure or layoffs during this challenging period for the gaming industry, which has also affected companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others.
