How challenging will it be to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States at launch and throughout the rest of 2025? Doug Bowser, head of Nintendo of America, states the company expects to have sufficient inventory to satisfy consumer demand "through the holiday season."
In an interview with IGN about the grand opening of the Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted the overwhelmingly positive reception to the Switch 2 and confirmed plans for a "steady supply" throughout 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5.
"Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently announced a sales forecast of 15 million units for Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units for the original Nintendo Switch this fiscal year," Bowser explained.
"This projection is designed to match the accomplishments of the original Nintendo Switch during its initial ten months. For the U.S. market, we are confident our production and supply chain will meet consumer demand. The early response to the Switch 2 has been exceptionally positive, as seen in our pre-order numbers, and we have a strategy in place to ensure a consistent product flow during the holiday shopping period."
This is encouraging news for anyone looking to buy a Switch 2 in the U.S. this year. Pre-orders for the console have been challenging. Following a delay caused by tariffs, pre-orders opened on April 24, with the console's price remaining at $449.99—and the process unfolded as anticipated. Additionally, Nintendo has alerted U.S. customers who pre-ordered the Switch 2 through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery cannot be guaranteed due to extremely high demand.
Bowser's latest remarks, however, imply that those who have secured a Switch 2 pre-order will receive their console. For more information, visit IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
Meanwhile, concerns about tariffs and potential price increases for the Switch 2 and its games have surfaced. We asked Bowser how committed Nintendo is to maintaining the Switch 2's $450 price at launch and beyond.

In response, Bowser remained somewhat non-committal but indicated that Nintendo had "made a commitment" by setting the Switch 2's price at $450 and the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World bundle at $500.
"By announcing the pricing—$449 for the standalone unit and $499 for the bundle with Mario Kart World—we made a firm commitment," Bowser stated.
"We believed it was essential to confirm that price point, even after new tariffs were introduced, to reassure customers they could purchase at that rate. The situation remains dynamic, and it's hard to predict what may happen in the coming weeks or months. However, we are dedicated to navigating current and potential market shifts to make our products, including the Switch 2 hardware, as accessible as possible."
